04/14/13 If You Confess!

Text: Romans 10:8-10

8 But what does it say?" The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

“Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.” Romans 10:1

Intro: Remember the song Frank Sinatra made famous “My Way?” The Israelites thought they could do it their way. In the New Living Translation verse three of Romans 10 sums it up right well: “For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law.” I am so glad as a minister of the Gospel that people today don’t think like that! Or do they?

Application: It is as easy as ABC, Accept, Believe & Confess! This is the Plan of Salvation.

What must one do to be saved?

1. Confess: “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

What is salvation? It is more than baptism and church membership! There are many teachings about salvation, but Jesus is the only way. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

There is only one name whereby we may be saved: Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

1 John 1:9 (KJV) “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

“Jesus, Jesus, Jesus sweetest name I know, fills my every longing- keeps me singing as I go.”

What must one do to be saved?

2. Believe:

Turn (Repent), turn from sin and self toward Christ! Can’t do it your way, you must believe: “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.” It was Paul’s prayer for Israel to believe and receive their salvation through their Messiah. Religion will not save you, the righteousness of Christ will! The Jews were ignorant of God's righteousness, unwilling to accept God's way. They didn’t believe!

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” John 5:24 (NKJV)

Since Christ has come, the gospel does not require man to scale the heavens nor to fathom the great abyss. Such requirements would be impossible. The gospel only demands faith and open confession that Christ has done both. Why would God commission His Son to go to such limits for man? “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Romans 5:8 (KJV) “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Do you believe Christ died for you?

What must one do to be saved?

3. Receive:

What have you received?

  • Forgiveness: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (KJV)
  • Relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Eternal life

God’s way not ours is simple:

  • You must confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus.
  • You must believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.
  • You He must believe that Jesus Christ died for us, and that He was raised up from the dead because He perfectly satisfied God's demand for justice.
  • You must believe with the heart and then confess with the mouth and righteousness follows through belief in Jesus Christ, and God takes that person’s faith and counts it as righteousness.

Then the person confesses Christ to salvation; that is, he is saved by openly confessing Christ. No person can deny God's Son and expect God to save him. Matthew 10:32-33 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”

Conclusion: Though Frank Sinatra made it big with this worldly song “My Way” please understand living life your way and not God’s way will end up in death: “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12

Romans 10:11-13 “For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved."

He has a toll free number call Him, there is no waiting no need to leave a message on the answering machine, He will answer!

It is as easy as ABC, have you confessed?
